Great Nights Out In LA

Image From Wikimedia
We all can all call ourselves “foodies” from time to time, but Los Angeles has so many events that are in the foodie mecca. Every type of food and drink you can imagine is served at various events through the year. We have found a few events that we think you should defiantly try on your next free weekend or free night.

Wine Night

You still have a few more weeks to experience the Barnsdall Art Park Friday Night Wine Tastings. This event is hosted on Frank Lloyd Wright’s newly restored Hollyhock House, and the evening’s music is provided by KCRW’s DJ Dan Wilcox. For $30, you can sample four selections of artisanal wines and local gourmet cheeses. Also, for an additional $12, you can take a curator-led tour of the House. These Friday Night Wine Tastings are from 5:30pm-8:30pm until September 4th.

Taco Festival

If you are looking for an event of the free variety, it is happening downtown Grand Park on August 22nd. This park is home to two great events; the L.A. Taco Festival and a series celebrating the LGBTQ community. The L.A. Festival features tacos from Kogi, Tacos El Gallito, Homeboy Industries, Danny’s Tacos, Los Ruizeñores, Zingo and more. Also, you can hear music from California-based Afro-Latin influenced Quinta Penas. After you grab your tacos, head to the PROUD Picnic which will feature food trucks, music and games from 1pm-5pm. The Taco Festival will be from noon to 7 p.m..

The Queen Mary’s dinner series is adding a new addition to their popular date nights. They will feature a Mixology Dinner and Competition in the Barrel Dinner Series. Four mixologists will be on hand to impress guest tastes and a chance to win $2000. The challenge is to pair a cocktail with a select dinner course made by the Queen Mary’s executive chef. If you want to mix up your typical Independence Day routine and get out of your apartment home at Palazzo Westwood Village, plenty of events lie in store for you! Our area has celebrations including anything from the expected fireworks spectaculars to cemetery celebrations!

Hollywood Bowl
"King of Motown" Smokey Robinson and the Los Angeles Philharmonic will serenade audiences Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 PM. Performances will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Tickets are available online, and children 12 and under are half price.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery
If watching a screening of "Top Gun" outdoors at a Hollywood cemetery sounds like your ideal Fourth of July celebration, head over to Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Watching a film in the cemetery may sound strange on the surface, but it is one of the city's most popular summer events. Make sure you get there early!

The Queen Mary
If you have friends or family in Long Beach, the July 4th celebration on The Queen Mary is the perfect excuse to go and visit! Watch the fireworks from aboard a harbor cruise, enjoy a vintage family circus, dine on some barbecue at The Aquarium of the Pacific, and more! Haute Living calls Long Beach's fireworks display one of the best in Southern California.

Grand Park
Pack a picnic, gather your pets and head downtown for a huge summer block party! The event features food trucks, live music, and more. Best of all, this event is free to attend!

Beer Week is Back

Whether you have a love for all things craft beer or have just had a long, hard week at the office, relief is on the way - the 7th annual Los Angeles Beer Week is just about here! This year's LA Beer Week runs from June 20 through 28, and has a variety of events in store throughout the city during this time. Here are a few of this year's most notable events:

Kickoff Event
The LA Brewers Kickoff Event is tomorrow, June 20, on the south lawn of Exposition Park. More than 75 breweries will be in attendance, with 200 types of beer in tow. In addition to food trucks (including the Grilled Cheese Truck) and beer, there will be live entertainment for your listening pleasure. The event will be held from noon to 5 PM. Tickets are available online, but please be advised that VIP tickets for the event have already sold out.

Father's Day Vinyl Brunch
If you want to treat your beer-loving Dad to a nice Father's Day outing on Sunday, head to Phantom Carriage for brunch. Enjoy "Beermosas," Bloody Marys, Sangria and plenty of one-off beers as you listen to some old-school vinyl records. While some LA Beer Week events charge an admission fee, this event is free to enter and begins at 12:10 PM.

Vegan Cheese & Beer Pairings
Even if your diet does not include animal products, you can still participate in LA Beer Week. Join Golden Road Brewing at the pub for an evening of vegan cheese and beer pairings. Guests will enjoy vegan cheese from Follow Your Heart paired with some of Golden Road's favorite brews. The event takes place Monday, June 22 from 5-9 PM.

Rarest of the Rare
Smog City Brewing's Rarest of the Rare event has taken a break for the past two years, but it will triumphantly return on Saturday, June 27. Smog City's three bars will serve retired beers, bourbon barrel-aged beers, sour beers and experimental beers. Don't feel the need to drink everything all at once - this event lasts from noon to 8 PM.

These are just a handful of the week's planned events. To view the full schedule, visit the official event website. If you have yet to come up with the perfect Father's Day gift idea, some of these events could be just the ticket! Memorial Day Weekend Events

As our country pauses on Monday to take time to honor the soldiers who lost their lives in defense of our country, we also have the opportunity to celebrate and enjoy the freedoms obtained in those battles. If you are without plans over the long weekend, there are many ways to enjoy your time with friends and family throughout our area.

Bring a blanket to lay down on the grass and sip your samples among friends! The first tasting of the 2015 season is tonight! The drive from your home at Palazzo Westwood Village to Barnsdall Park is about 45 minutes.

Disneyland's 60th Anniversary
Starting tonight, Disneyland will celebrate its "diamond year" 60th anniversary with three new shows, and structures be adorned in diamond everything! One million lights will make the Disney Paint the Night Parade one of the brightest in Disney's history! It takes about 90 minutes to get to Disneyland from Palazzo Westwood Village.

Located in Santa Monica's Circle Bar, the block party includes food and drink specials, live DJs and more! Tickets start at $10. The festivities run from 3PM through 2 AM on Sunday, May 24. Fiesta Hermosa
Fiesta Hermosa, the largest arts and crafts fair in Southern California, lasts May 23-25 from 10 AM through 6 PM. Hermosa Beach is about one hour away from Westwood.

Other Ideas
If none of these events appeal to you, there are many, many more going on this weekend. You could also get creative and take a drive up and down the coast or head to the beach! If staying closer to home suits you, take the time to walk around Westwood Village with friends or visiting family members!

Regardless of your plans, we wish you a safe and happy holiday weekend! Thank you to all of our servicemen and women!

If you have never been to Los Angeles County Museum of Art (better known as LACMA), or even if you have, this weekend is your opportunity to visit this LA cultural staple for free! Take advantage of the opportunity to visit the museum's Miracle Mile campus for a day of art, culture and enjoyment!

This special event includes free admission to all of the museum's exhibits, including the new 50 for 50: Gifts on the Occasion of LACMA's Anniversary. This exhibit includes the gifts received by the museum from all over the world for its 50th anniversary. The day also includes 50 self-guided activities from various parts of the Miracle Mile campus. While you do need tickets for the 50 for 50 exhibit, tickets are still free of charge. Another aspect of the day is a concert at the Bing Theater.

If you're interested in attending, the LACMA's hours on Sunday are from 10 AM to 7 PM. Brokechella 2015

You've probably been seeing a ton of posts on social media and stories in the news about Coachella, but every year on the second weekend of the music festival, something happens a little closer to home  - Brokechella!

Brokechella began as a community arts and culture event from cARTel, which at one point in time was held in a black box theater right here in Westwood. The festival of comedians, bands, and artists kept growing each year. When organizers realized that it kept falling on the second weekend of Coachella, they changed the name to Brokechella, as tickets were only $5!

Brokechella 2015 takes place this Saturday, April 18, at Sante Fe Studios in downtown Los Angeles. Also known as "a music fest for the rest of us," this is the 5th year for the event. While tickets are no longer $5, it's still a very affordable event, with this year's tickets ranging between $15 and $25. Online tickets are already sold out.

Who can you look forward to seeing at one of the event's four stages? Musical acts include: OYLS, Smoke Season, Hex Cougar, Anabot, and more. Stand-up comedians performing at the festival include Even Cassidy, Kyle Shire and Myke Wright, among others. To view the full line-up of performers, click here.

You can even bring your pooch along to certain areas of the festival. Yes, that's right, Puppychella is an event! Please note, there are rules and regulations to bringing along Fido to Puppychella, including registering them with the festival. For full rules, click here.

Are you interested in volunteering at the event? People are needed to assist with set-up, event execution and clean-up throughout the weekend. If you are able to donate your time, you can sign up through the Volunteer Form.

The festival is easily accessible from Palazzo Westwood Village apartment homes by taking I-10 for about 15 miles.

Will you be among the crowd at Coachella or Brokechella this weekend? Either way, both are a great way to check out live music!
