Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers Basketball
The Los Angeles Lakers are a professional basketball team that started in 1947. A disbanded team the Detroit Gems was purchased and moved to Minneapolis and became the Minneapolis Lakers because of the state's nickname "Land of 10,000 Lakes". After struggling financially in the late 1950s, they moved to Los Angeles in 1960. The Lakers play their home games at the Staples Center along with the Los Angeles Clippers.
The Los Angeles Clippers were founded in 1970 as the Buffalo Braves. This was one of the three expansion teams to join the NBA. The Braves moved all around the country from Buffalo to San Diego and then finally to Los Angeles in 1984. They have had recent success in the past few years with winning division championships and becoming a rival to the Lakers.
Los Angeles Kings Hockey
The Los Angeles Kings were founded in 1966 when Jack Kent Cooke was awarded an NHL expansion franchise for Los Angeles. This was one of the six teams that would begin to play in the 1967 expansion. They were originally located in The Forum in Inglewood, California before moving to Los Angeles in 1999. The Kings won the Stanley Cup in 1993, 2012 and 2014.
Los Angeles Galaxy Soccer
The LA Galaxy is the American professional soccer team housed in Carson, California a suburb of Los Angeles. The Galaxy is one of the most-decorated clubs having one the MLS Cup five times, the Supporters' Shield four time, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup twice and the old CONCACAF Champion's cup. The Los Angeles Galaxy was one of the first ten teams to play in the FIFA World Cup in 1994.
Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim Baseball
The Los Angeles Dodgers were established in 1883 in Brooklyn, New York. They moved to Los Angeles during the 1958 season. They played for four years in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving to their home at Dodger Stadium. They have won six World Series titles and 21 National League pennants.
The Angels of Anaheim have played in the Angel Stadium of Anaheim since 1966. Gene Autry was the first owner that established the Angels in 1961. In 2009, the Angels won the AL West Division championship for the third straight season. The Angels also have had more than 3 million fans in attendance for 11 straight years in 2013.
Los Angeles Rams Football
The Los Angeles Rams were founded in 1936 as the Cleveland Rams in the American Football League. In 1946, they team moved to Los Angeles until 1994. The St. Louis Rams played from 1995-2015, until this year when it was announced they will be moving back to Los Angeles in 2016.
